Business License

According to the United States Business Administration, business owners who do business in Florida should register their business names with the Davison of Corporations. They can complete the registration by entering all required business details into the online fictitious name registration portal. They should do this whether they operate the restaurant as a sole proprietorship, a corporation, or a partnership.

Identification Number from the Internal Revenue Service

An employer identification number (EIN) is issued by the IRS to Florida businesses that have employees. The EIN is a substitute for a social security number. Owners of Florida restaurants should fill out an application on the IRS website to get this identification. They will need the EIN when filing restaurant taxes and hiring employees.

Food Service License

Every restaurant must have a food service license from the Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants.  Owners must get this license before they open their establishment. They must submit a facility plan and property specifications to the division when newly built, reopening after closing it for a year, or being converted from other use or remodeled. Additionally, owners must also complete and submit a public food service license application package to the division. Once the division approves the plan, a sanitation health inspection will be performed. During license renewals, more inspections will be done to ensure the safety of restaurant goers.

Alcohol License

A business license obtained by a restaurant anywhere in Florida does not permit the sale of liquor or alcohol on the premises of the restaurant. Restaurants need to possess a liquor license so they can sell beer and wine that will be consumed on-premise. Selling liquor requires extra licenses that let the establishment sell liquor in particular servings or amounts. The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco provides these licenses.
